Monrovia Names Brian Barber as Boys' Basketball Head Coach
By Jon Regashus | Aug 1, 2025 4:38 PM
Monrovia High School athletic director Jon Regashus announced today that Brian Barber has been named as the school’s boys’ basketball head coach, pending board approval. Barber will replace Nick Hinojosa, who is leaving after 4 seasons at Monrovia to become the head coach at Lebanon. Barber has spent the last 26 years as the head coach at Danville, where his teams won 12 sectional championships and 4 regional championships during that time. His career began in 1996 with a 3-year stint at Riverton Parke. With a career record of 501-192, Barber will begin the 2025-26 season as the 7th winningest active coach in the state of Indiana. In the 122-year history of IHSAA basketball, he is one of only 39 coaches to win over 500 games in his career. His teams have finished with a winning record a remarkable 28 times in his 29 seasons as the head coach at Riverton Parke and Danville. The move reunites Barber with Regashus, who recently became the athletic director at Monrovia a month ago. The two previously worked together at Danville from 2011-2020. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Coach Barber to Monrovia,” said Regashus. “It’s an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes to learn from one of the most accomplished coaches in the history of Indiana High School basketball. I know for certain that our team is going to be tough, they are going to compete, and they are going to be prepared. During our time working together in the past, there was never a single game in 9 years where I felt we were less prepared than our opponent.” “I want to thank the Monroe-Gregg school board, superintendent Trent Provo, principal Mike Springer, and athletic director Jon Regashus for the opportunity to serve as the head coach at Monrovia High School,” said Barber. “It is an honor and a privilege to represent the Monrovia community. I absolutely can not wait to meet the players and get started on the work that will make our program successful.”
